I agree that prescription diets work. Anyways before I get into the meat of this post, a bit of a back ground of what's ailing Calvin. Calvin has a digestional / stomach disease which causes him to throw up his food.
Not sure if you'all remember my thread in regards to finding Calvin a new Venison and Potato diet as (I was told by the clinic I purchase his food from) Royal Canin was discontinuing their Potato and Venison formula. Food which Calvin's been on for approx 2 1/2 years or so.
After finding an alternative. I started (doing a slow transion) feeding Calvin Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Sweet Potato and Venison.
During a two month period of the change in diet. Calvin went from throwing up once every month or longer, to once a week. There was a week where he threw up twice.
Talked it over with his DOC, talked to the person at her clinic who does the special (food) orders. It was confirmed (since she orders the food directly from Royal Canin, and not a supplier) that Royal Canin did not discontinue the Potato and Venison. However, there may be times that the PV may not be available due to the lack of quality venison available that meets Royal Canin's standards / approval.
So, to insure Calvin has his food. I'm keeping three cases on hand at all times. Once we (if we ever) get back on a construction site. I'll increase it four cases, may be five.
Back to the diet. I switched him back to the Royal Canin Potato and Venison (again, transitioning but only a few days this time) on May 12th. He threw up about 2 1/2 weeks later on the 29th. Then a week and a half later on June 7th.
Knock on my mead, I mean wood! It's the 30th, and he hasn't thrown up!
However, one thing about his Royal Canin PV, even his Hill's Hypo-Allergenic Biscuit's. When I purchase them from a Veterinary Clinic, all I need is to show them the prescription. In turn they will put Calvin in the computer so I don't need to bring / show the prescription again.
BUT I don't need to wait don't know how long, since I left after 10 minutes for a SPECIAL BANFIELD CARD and DECODER RING just to buy his DANG biscuits!
