There is nothing wrong with the breed. Ask anyone who has owned a good pit, they will tell you they are the sweetest dogs.
The problem lies with the HUMANS.
No there should not be breed restrictions.
Maybe there should be human restrictions.
Thank you for saying this.
My Chihuahua is much more aggressive than my Staffy/Whippet (which most would see a Pit). Which is why the chihuahua stays inside the TH unless out for a walk. I work with a dog rescue and have had many different breeds of foster dogs. Every singe dog that has come through with aggressive tendencies have been because of the piss poor humans that owned them prior to dumping them at the pound or on the street.
As for temperament test.
Breed Temperaments Staffordshire Bull Terrier has a 90.7% pass rating, while the Whippet has an 86% pass rating.
The Chihuahua has a pass rating of 69.8%.
I feel safer with my children around my big bad Staffy than I do with my Chihuahua any day, and that's a well behaved Chihuahua at that. As with any breed, the owner should be mindful and always in control of their dog. This is especial true of pitbull owners, since they seem to get the baddest rap.
Here's a Ceaser Millam quote:
“In the 70s they blamed Dobermans, in the 80s they blamed German Shepherds, in the 90s they blamed Rottweilers. Now they blame the Pit Bull. When will they blame the humans?”
How about instead of demonizing this mans dog. We look at the real issue. Which was his lapse in judgment and how he was controlling or lack there of, of his dog.
