Earlier this week I got a call that a large, three year old parti standard poodle named Shakespeare (yes, his real name!) had been rescued from animal control in a neighboring county and needed a foster. How could I resist? The owners didn't have time for him... :( My husband met him as he drove his Miata (convertible) into the garage with the top down, and Shakespeare stuck his head over the door. They were looking eye-to-eye, which was hilarious! This dog is big! He's also a doll - so sweet! His coat was all matted, and the shelter tried to groom him, but it ended being a bit of a hack job, and he was still matted on his shoulders, chest, hips, and legs. Oh well - they tried.I took Shakespeare to my groomer yesterday (Friday), who neatened up the hack job as best as she could, and I think he looks wonderful! Shakespeare went to Petsmart today to be shown by the rescue, and he got ADOPTED - woo hoo!!!! :B A lady who has had standard poodles before fell in love with him. Happy life, sweet boy!Here's Shakespeare's "before" photo - matted and unbrushed. Also pardon his high-water feet! The shelter shaved his feet WAY too high up the leg - lol: Here he is after going to the groomer:

What a fast turn-around that was! And what a great job the groomer did! I thought he was cute in his before photo, but his after pic is beautiful. She got his white so pretty. Congrats to all.

I think the whitening shampoo the groomer no doubt used helped him more than the haircut! He's stunning, and I'm glad he found a forever home so quickly.

Those markings are stunning! What a cute dog. I'd take him home!

Stunning...love standard Poodles. I can see where you would certainly
fail fostering if you had him a day or two more.

Oooh, love a dark chocolate! I hope the dog doesn't fade with age, but if so the cafe-au-lait color is pretty, too. Glad your daughter rescues!

He's beautiful! My daughter and family rescue standard poodles and just got their newest, Pepper, a chocolate brown gal. Turns out she is a "puppy" instead of 3 years old, but they love her. They take her to a dog park daily so she can run off some energy because she will jump their fence at home. They are working with her a lot. One of my favorite pictures is her laying on the couch with her head in the lap of my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. Pepper LOVES the kids. She is a great dog.

LOL. Thanks for posting his pic, OP. I am partial to a standard poodle. My last dog was a very large standard--smartest dog I ever owned. Now I have a 12-lb Bichon. Sweet dog, but dumb as a box of rocks. I'd have another standard poodle in a heartbeat, if only I could get my DH on board. :p

I agree he's got great markings! On his other side he's mostly white. If I didn't already have Jackson, my boxer, I probably would have been a foster failure with this one. I'm glad I didn't have him long enough to get attached to him. He's a special dog!
