Your thinking which led to your decision is certainly sound. And you are correct, sometimes, a dog is just "a dog". That doesn't make them bad or defective necessarily, it just means that for some reason, things didn't click. He may not have been well socialized, or maybe was traumatized, or something else. But he seems to have good points, and was friend to your other pooches. But when you are worried about what may happen when little kids are around, it is time.
