I am going thru my very first dog that has ever lived past 10 and it is all new to me all what he is going thru now at 14.
He exhibits the same behavior as your dog. So I'm guessing it's just part of the aging process.
Jack is the polar-opposite of where Ike was a year ago. Ike needed help getting in the car and going up and down the stairs; but he was always patient and polite. If Ike was an "elderly gentleman who exuded grace and dignity"; Jack is an angry curmudgeon. But Ike could still see clearly; so we were able to communicate with hand signals and body language. He could see me smile at him. HUGE difference. Jack is lost in a fog; physically and mentally. He gets "lost" in his crate; or forgets where the door is to ask to go out.... for a dog who was ALWAYS on the alert, ever-vigilantly protecting his property and family from anyone or anything, this has to be making him crazy :-(
