When we have to consider this decision, it helps me to think about it from the canine's perspective rather than humanizing the process.
I ponder whether my pet would still be alive if they were an animal in the wild, or would Mother Nature have arranged an exit?
And I think back to my mother and father, with my mother choosing her time to go (removed her own life support) and my being with my father 40 years later as his life left him after his body broke due to old-age. Death isn't easy.
It is difficult when a pet dies.
It is a good thing to help them ease into it gracefully.
