We have full-timed as well as lived in different communities and have always found vets to our liking. The few times we have encountered a vet like the OP is describing, it has been one and only one visit. I don't think it is much different than people doctors or dentists. There are always those who either want to up-sell or have obnoxious personalities and there are those who will be straight and do as you wish.
