Hunters and others have been safely transporting dogs in the bed of pickups for decades using aluminum or stainless steel slide-in dog boxes. For longer trips they are typically insulated (R20-30) and have powered ventilation (example 900cfm). For them (and us) the dogs are more than just pets/family, they are working partners and as such their health and safety are of great concern.
OP said nothing about insulated kennels or power ventilation. He just said kennels. So, I agree with the previous two posters. Dogs belong inside the truck, with family, in better conditions. If the AC in the truck fails, you know it immediately. If 'power ventilation' failed on one of those fancy kennels, when do you realize it....a few hours down the road? Might be too late then. Sorry, dogs shouldn't travel in pickup beds.
