Black pepper liberally sprinkled over the top of the full trash can may work. Every dog sniffs whatever they're interested in, and a snootful of pepper is a major lesson. You might need to keep it up for a couple of days. Once she gets the idea, you might even try it on the sofa. I've used this as a deterrent in lots of places where I didn't want the dog to go/be.
I adopted a dog with bad furniture habits, too, and though it took awhile she finally got the idea that it isn't allowed....sort of.
We're well aware that she gets up in my chair as soon as we go to bed because we hear her feet hit the ground as soon as we stir to get up.
But nobody's perfect, right?
