Teaching an old dog new tricks
BF and I recently rescued a dog. She is part pit and part traveling salesman from what I can tell. I'll post a pic and you all can give me your best guess. Also, I'm guessing she's around 5 years old....

I like treat training along with a clicker, eventually weaning off from both. Put her where you want her to sleep and say "bed" firmly, give a click and then a treat. Do this numerous times throughout the day, in 10-15 min increments. Make sure you tell her to stay with a hand signal. Praise her gently, when she responds correctly. If you praise too effusively, she jump up, which is not the goal.
Spray the trash with ammonia. Set her up, leave the trash open to her and spray her with a water bottle. They make noisemakers that go off if disturbed. They might scare away.
