I'm just having fun reading this - there's "outsmarting a dog", then there's "thinking you can outsmart a herding dog"....ROFL!!!
I've had all 3 kinds of dogs:
The obedient ones: "don't touch that, please" and they don't. That was Ike.
The trained ones, like Jack the Cattle Dog - one good zap and he never surfed again.
And the "don't leave food out or you'll lose it" dogs like our old Aussie Nick. He would have figured out that the baby camera had been deployed, so he'd leave stuff alone until you forgot. Fortunately, he was an AUSSIE; so a cooling cake stuffed in the far back corner of the kitchen counter was out-of-reach. I have no clue what's out-of-reach for a tall dude like a collie....
