I'm still mourning the loss of my soulmate-Aussie last April; and yes, I second-guessed my decision to put him down a thousand times. It didn't help that he didn't WANT to leave me and fought like a tiger 'til the very last second....
But I remind myself that sooner or later, the awful deed had to be done - and I'm glad that something truly dire (like falling and breaking a leg or dislocating a hip) didn't happen that would have had him suffering.
So my heart breaks for everyone on this forum who's lost a beloved pet. There's a price to be paid, ultimately, for all that love and fun. Some folks hurt so bad, that they vow to never get another dog.... me? I can't imagine a life without a dog or two in it; so like the proverbial moth to the flame, I got a puppy last summer. No dog will ever replace my Aussie - but the new guy (and his 5 yr old "big brother") certainly provide a lot of love and entertainment.
So sorry for your loss.
