It is a very hard to determine when you can let go because it is the best thing for your baby. We all want to hold on as long as possible, but you reach a point where it is time. You did the right thing, but you do need to take time grieve. Keep focused on all the happy moments you shared and know that Earl knew you loved him and is now happy and pain free.
