Lots of good suggestions but have to put "around the issue with the slides".
Would be best if you could crate your cat when you bring your slides in or put them out...cats can and do hide everywhere and some pour souls have been crushed.
So please make it a priority that you always know exactly where your cat is when you do the slides...you will possibly save it's life.
