Travelling with Cats that like the outdoors

Hi All,

New travellers here that are in the process of acquiring a DP prob a 42'. I was wondering how experienced RV'ers handle having cats that like to escape the coach?

Are there apparatus that works, kitty harness, outdoor kennel?

I would like to hear solutions others have implemented so we can travel with our kitties! Thanks for your help!

  • Our 2 cats have traveled with us since we got them 9 yrs ago. We used to have a screen room that attached to the awning, however, a newer rig, don't want the screen room. They're doing just fine now -- 3 months into full-time RVing and they only occasionally try to get out. Oh, heck, yeah, one has gotten out twice but he doesn't run....so we got him back in. They were indoor/outdoor cats when we had a stick house. They don't seem to be missing the outdoor part at all.

Cats will get into any nook or cranny in your mh, so be prepared. Make sure you have a collar an id on at all times just in case it gets out. Get the cat used to the RV by letting it stay in it at home for a while. It will become a safe haven. When we travelled with our cat she would want to get back in.

    X2

How are they in new environments outdoors? be very careful.

If one decides to climb a tree & you're not near civilization, you best have a big ladder. Don't ask me how I know that. :B

  • A harness might be an idea, since cats hate them and try to remove them it might be tough
    We don't let ours out.

Every, and I mean EVERY person I know that has let their cats out as lost them at least once, sometimes for ever.
