Trekking with Your Trailer Mouth Parrot in an RV

Any suggestions on creating a space in a class
B RV for a very talkative parrot? He's a hahn's
macaw ... hyperactive .. about 15 years old ...

Has a vocabulary that would make a church lady blush!
  • :B No suggestions but I remember my kids baby sitters parents had a bird like that. Language got so bad I didn't allow her to take my kids

    home with her any more.
  • I dated a girl one time that had one of those birds.

That obnoxious thing would never shut up.

On the other hand, the bird was pretty cool...

    :B :B :B
  • I have a Mexican red headed amazon who camps in my class C (21ft). I have a poquito avian hotel that I have strapped to the back half of the dinette table. Dog-bird (his screen name) goes from the house to the RV and back in a regular plastic carrier, but he travels in the RV in the poquito. It works great. From his spot at the table, he can see out both side windows and the windshield.

I have found that he is much happier (and hence less likely to screech and shriek) if he can see out during the drive. I'm not sure if you could find a spot in the B for the cage to sit high enough. If not, you might try one of those plexiglass carriers for the actual road trip and then set up a cage when you are stopped.

Dog-bird is at least 33 years old now (I've had him for 3). When I got him, he only knew how to say "hello". THAT was annoying! Now he has learned how to say "shut up!" (don't know where he learned that from :) ) I don't bring him outside very often (usually only at a rally when folks want to visit with him), but as long as he can see outside, he is happy with the arrangements.

Oh, and while he doesn't have a large vocabulary, he does "call out" to his dogs... A nice steady loud squawk over and over until the two dogs start howling like there's a fire engine going by. Then he laughs. Fortunately, people think it's cute when they go by and hear it...

We would cover the cage with a very thick dark cloth to keep any light out and to make the bird think night had fallen. It worked well.
