- raindoveExplorerI'm sorry to hear this. It's never easy. It always seems to be a roller coaster ride when you know the end is approaching. They have bad days and then they rally and have some good ones. But in the end, they have their own way of letting us know when it's time. He's had a good life with you.
- dspencerExplorerI am so very sorry to hear about Ben Ben. You provided him with a long great life and may God Bless you!
- cheleExplorerI am so sorry.
- CatandJimExplorerBarb, I am so sorry to hear about BenBen. I know you have taken excellent care of him and will continue to do so. Just remember to take gentle care of yourself as well during the coming days.
- magnusfideExplorer II12 years of happiness. I'm sorry to hear that it's not more. God bless you all.
- nana23ExplorerI have been away from the forum for awhile and was so sorry to see the news about BenBen. You have had wonderful memories with him but somehow they always seem to come to an end too soon. May your remaining time together be filled with peace and love.
Eileen - sher9570ExplorerI knew you would do all you could for BenBen, the love you have for him comes through in every word you speak of him.
Just breaks my heart that we cannot have our Labs longer than we do.
Sher - Deb_and_Ed_MExplorer III don't know if I can put this adequately in words, but sometimes it's easier when you know there's a close-by "end date"? I had been putting off my Aussie's last trip, (he was thin, but otherwise fairly happy) until something must have gone south in his hip and he needed my assistance to stand up squarely to eat. I made the appointment - then dedicated myself to making sure he had a delightful couple of days. It doesn't lessen the heartache - maybe it just makes you go forward in a robot-like manner.
At any rate, I'm so sorry things didn't work out better. - Code2HighExplorerI am sorry your extra time is coming to and end....but glad that he did so well for so long.
I know you will take these last days to spend every minute you can with him. - kokosfriendExploreryes, Sher, he is on prednisone, nausea medication, and a liver support med. Don't remember the names. Also we are giving 200 cc of fluid sub q twice a day. He is pretty comfortable most of the time. tonight he ate almost a whole can of dog food. He followed from room to room and laid down on blankets close to us.
Will not let him suffer in any way. Have sedative (ace) if need be. Vet is available by cell phone if needed. We will not put him through chemo at this point. He will get an exam and blood work again on Monday. We knew this would happen, but it seemed to happen quickly. He has had over 12 good years of many happy times.
