Well, it's a mast cell tumor. It's still on the skin but my vet told me it has the capability of spreading to internal organs and suggested it be removed. She took a needle biopsy and examined it under the microscope. She said I could think it over and then let her know, but I told her to schedule the surgery. That will take place next Thursday. It will be a 2.5 cm (1 inch) removal and will be done with a laser. I also had the choice if I wanted the laser and was told it would heal faster and cleaner. So there you are, gang. I don't want to fool around with this - the sooner it is out the better I'll feel. It will also be sent out for biopsy and we'll decide on further treatment when the results are in. Hopefully no chemo or radiation. Dr. Doug, could you jump in here somewhere and give your knowledge and opinion on this? And anyone else of my forum buddies who have been through this with their pets, please feel free to comment. I have to admit when I saw this thing I sort of had a feeling that it wasn't anything to be fooled around with with a wait and see attitude. One of my husband's friends is now going through radiation because her cancer was not treated aggressively enough when discovered. I feel I'm doing the right thing, and I'm not going to lose Andy if there are medical treatments available to eliminate this.
