We had a member of this board, years ago, who threw a stick to his dog that was swimming in a lake. The dog grabbed the stick head on, it drove into his open throat and lacerated an artery. Dog did not survive. Sorry, really horrible story and I'm not sure how one would avoid that. It's just good to be aware, as Dr Doug says.
