Well, it depends on the type of people you are.
For one, if you both like to tour around and see things/places, this can add a new thing to think about because there are many things/places to see that you can't bring a dog.
Another example is, if DW is a busy-body and you're a 'sit and watch the world go by' type, this enables her to get out and have company to take walks around and socialize while you get to enjoy your thing and everyone is happy at the end of the day.
My best friend was a guy who hated dogs and never wanted one. Wifey bugged him for a while to get one and he finally relented about 2 years ago and they got one. Him and dog are now practically inseparable and he says he never knew what he was missing.
It also depends on the reason why you don't want one, if there is one particular reason. A lot of people will say you shouldn't because it's a lengthy commitment, but you are able to give it a try by adopting a mid-aged or senior dog without it being a 10-15 year commitment. Of course, it's already trained, so you don't have to deal with the puppy puddles and goo on the floor.
Either way, there is definitely a long discussion in your future... for your future.
Excellent post. I particularly agree with the bolded part, because I know so many people who've had the same experience.
X3 and we agree with the suggestion of getting a senior dog. The rescue places have a number you can choose from because everyone wants a puppy.
