All I have to ad is I have had dogs all my life. My present one is a chaweeny & is my best friend. She was a rescue dog. When I went to see her when let out of her kennel she RAN to me and jumped into my arms. Needless to say she came home with me 13 yrs ago. She is the third weiner dog. 1st was put down @ 18, her buddy a few yrs later @ 15 and the present one is 15. But she loves to go camping and always has gone with me. Now that her hearing & sight is failing I cannot leave her in the rv alone. She barks till I return. This limits my trail riding. I take her if we are going on smooth trails but can't go on the challenging rock crawling stuff with her. Can't fly with her so when going cross country I drive. The last thing. The reason she will be my last. They love us unconditionally. When the time comes I take them in and hold them until they are gone. I owe it to them that they pass in my arms with my scent & love. It's getting too hard to do this so this is my last and I dread the time that is getting near.
If you are not going to commit 110% don't get one unless your wife understands that it will be her responsibility. My personal opinion is that it will drive a wedge between the two of you. You will resent the dog, she will resent you and the poor dog will be the loser in the center of it all. Good luck with your discussions and decisions. God bless you both.
