Get her spayed. Irregular cycles and different character of the cycles are warning signs of impending problems, not guaranteed to happen but VERY increased chances.
Dogs don't usually change cycles with age, only with physical/medical issues.

I have wanted to have a litter of pups but have been putting it off for various reasons. I am stuck in NY selling a house and I have a trip to Tucson AZ planned in the fall, it she isn't pregnant this next time she comes into heat I probably will take your advice. I pay for a health insurance plan for both dogs that includes regular check ups and they always come back with a clean bill of health.
PS judging from the responses it looks as if the change in my dogs cycle isn't due to the change in her surroundings.
