If we are going to have satellite tv (DIRECTV SD) at the camp we will have a 250' run of cable. I like my trees better than tv. Doing a little googling I see a distribution amplifier is recommended...

Hard to believe the signal which has traveled from a geosynchronous bird, some 22,000 miles away in outer space, to your antenna would be at all shy about traveling another 250 feet to reach the receiver. but I don't know that much about how sat tv actually works, just the broad strokes.
