It looks like a new style netbook has appearred this holiday seasonAnd it seems not to be catching the notice of all the tech journalists. Most major laptop makers have one. Looks like a direct W8 challenge to small touchscreen ChromeOS rigs.Asus VersionI cannot tell how they fit in w/ tablets being so handy??I have seen a Gateway, Lenovo, and HP version all at similar price w/ touch.

It really depends on what you want to use it for.A tablet is more portable than a laptop but is mostly useful for "consumption" activities such as watching movies, viewing pictures, reading email or forums, etc... A laptop is not quite as portable as a tablet but generally has more storage available and since it has a keyboard, much more capable of "creative" activities such as creating documents and spreadsheets that require substantial data input.IMO, touch on a laptop is nothing more than a "Gee Whiz!" feature but isn't very practical since you can use the touchpad/mouse and keyboard to do things much faster with less effort.

Celeron cpu's don't have a math co-processor. Not great if you do very intensive photo manipulation or intensive math type work. For the rest of us they work just fine.

You may need to be careful of specs.

The HP version has 2 gig ram and an AMD A4 w/ a passmark score of 860. Better read experienced reviews on these babies.

W8 does real well w/ new celerons. Martha's $280 Dell laptop boots quick and runs fast n smooth on 4 gig RAM and a celeron w/ a Passmark score around 1500

it is the celeron b840, I think
