That's what we ended up doing about 20 years ago at a site we had hardware zapped twice.
The first time it took out the the switch and network card in the workstation. The second attempt took out a RJ45 surge protector. After going to fiber with media converters it worked ok after that. I left that company so I don't know how long?
We get a lot of lightning around here.
