lynndiwagon,
Thx so much for your comments
I am technical... I have an electronics tech degree from '77. I have worked with computer network and CATV cabling for years. I have aimed my old sat dish in the past. Of course that dish was before the mulit-sat setups using oval dishes.
I am planning a 7 different site camping trip this winter in FL. I have downloaded the specs for each campground, and the elev, azimuth and skew is different for each of them. That means I will be moving and reaiming the dish 7 times in 12 weeks.
Using the receiver in the camper to aim is just not a good option, when I think I can get something that I can use at the dish to give me immeadiate feedback and hopefully save me many minutes or hours tring to find and peak the correct satelite with this Slimline dish.
I don't even think my HR24-500 DTV receiver gives a signal strength bar graph with or without beeps ( I have yet to find a graph in the setup menus). The SWM dish/receiver combo does not even LOCK; from youtube vids they talk about peaking the Quality signal by tweaking the dish, and unlike other dish/sat combos (using the 101 sat ONLY) there is no locked signal at all.
After all, there is only like, what, a one degree or less error factor, in these HD dishes and then there could be elevation and skew errors too?
Add in the fact that there is 21V LNB feed instead of standard 18V feed... well, I have been looking for answers.
With all of the answers so far, I believe I am getting great advice here.
HOWEVER
ONE more question I would like to hear an answer to:
When doing elevation adjustments on the SL3 Slimline dish, is one turn of the fine adjustment too much?
Thx to all for your posts and help...
