There are many techniques for finding the 99/101/103 satellites for a SWM setup. I have tried tried using a meter with an ASL 1, which works like the two way splitter, described in an earlier post. I hope that anyone tries this technique should know to disconnect the receiver from the PI while searching.
I have finally settled on a simple method, using a self powered meter. I simply pull out the SWM3 head and replace it with a legacy head, for searching. Then replace it with the SWM3 head after acquiring the signal. I don't use the screws to hold the head in place, so it's pretty easy. I usually take the dish out to an open area with only my compass and powered meter, set the dish and then run the cable to the receiver. Very quick and dirty, as I see it.
