Ok, First there are some very good reasons for wanting to listen to AM radio over FM or Internet... For example if you like a specific baseball team (or other ball) it is possible that one AM station may broadcast their games.. WJR, in Detroit, 50,000 watts,,, Used to be the only station on that frequency, Can hear it all over the eastern US (not sure of Western) broadcasts Tigers games for example...
Story (Short) Campground had a TV with a bad part in the AUDIO section... Tigers in World Series...So I went back to my PUP, Grabbed my Boom Box, and tuned it to WJR... We got to listen to one of the greatest play by play men ever as we watched the game...Many went home and did it for the next game.
Now.. How to BOOST Am reception when parked provided the park will let you:
YOu need, a LONG coil of wire
A weight A 1 liter pop bottle say 3/4 full works well,, Drill a hole in the cap just big enough to pass the next item,,Knot well and apply sealant before filling bottle with water)
Some heavy string or nylon line (Light, say 100 pound test)
Wire 100-300 feet
A long metal rod.. I use a long screwdriver (Phillips head) say 3 feet long.
a ground clamp
Attach wire to top (near handle) of screwdriver with clamp
Push into ground, (I like to use the spot where the A/C drips) near the radio.
Using Pop Bottle toss nylon line over tree limbs.. I have the other end of the line attached to my wire (Mine is used for higher frequencies thus is shorter)
Keep tossing till you run out of wire.
That is about it
NOTE: Which direction you toss the wire will affect which stations come in the best
Oh, At the radio end (NOTE ground after treeing) Wrap it around the radio a couple of times,,start with the grounded "end" at the back of the radio, under the bottom up the front over the top back down at least twice teh last time over the top up into the trees.
No electrical connection to the radio
