One of the other things that have not been addressed is AM interference. If you have an inverter, that can destroy AM reception. I only have a convertor. I know a few times listening to AM I have pulled the plug to the MH so the a/c coming in doesn't bother. Also if the vehicle antenna is short that will equal bad reception. In the past I have seen antennas work ok on FM but won't work worth a darn on AM. Usually a bad ground or an issue with the center wire of the antenna,
