I'm with Nomadac. I've been addicted to HF and MW radio monitoring since I was 6 or 7 listening to my dad's Ship-to-Shore radio in Beaumont, TX. I bought a C. Crane CC Radio Plus for MW DXing when we first started RVing and haven't been disappointed. It is a bit large for our small TT, but I deal with it. I made a Slinky antenna for it, but have yet to need it. It really hauls in the distant stations. Yes, it's easier to listen on the smartphone or computer, but where's the challenge of picking up stray Asian or South American Stations? ;)

So do what I do -- turn off the radio and listen to your spouse. It fulfills every single one of those criteria, without draining your battery! It's talk radio for boondockers.
That's defiantly not for me. She's snoring by 8 PM. :)
