New smart phone user here. Is virus protection needed with a smart phone? If so any recommendations? Thanks, John

Many people consider the phrase "mobile security" to be an oxymoron.
Any AV product on a phone is limited to what the OS will allow it to do - keep that in mind. They don't run with elevated privileges and they don't have special abilities or access that isn't available to any other app. The good guys have to play by the rules, but the bad guys don't.
Something is probably better than nothing, but don't assume you're protected just because you're running AV.
