Another sat question

First, Direct TV in the house. I have HD receiver H23-600 and standard receiver D12-100. I want a portable, self directing sat antenna , only one cable if possible. I know that I cannot get high def from Direct on a portable. Can live with that. So using either of my listed receivers, what portable antenna will work? I also don't care about locals when I'm on the road, over the air will work for that. Suggestions please that have been proven.

  • I have the Winegard Carryout G2 and it works very well. Adequate site window and it finds the satellite within minutes.
  • Op again. Hope this post gets in, 3rd time trying to reply? Looked at the Ames, but couldn't see how the adjustment for elevation was done. Guess both of these needs two separate cables, one for power and one for signal. The size of the G2 seems more appropriate for my limited storage.

I have the King Flex that I use with my D12. I like it. One cable will work everything. Two cables are necessary only if you want two receivers or a DVR with two tuners.
  • Go with oval dish to take advance of HD.It don't matter how good the TV is HD is better.
  • The Anser is also an excellent antenna. It is quite large by comparison but does and excellent job. I have used both and it appeared I had a bit less rain fade with the Anser likely due to the full-sized 18" antenna inside.
  • We have Direct at home and use a non-hd box with our Weingard Anser Sat. Totally portable, can use 2 cables for different TVs, and it's so easy to use! Simply set the heighth (often at 44 for the East Coast) and then it automatically finds the sat. So easy! Good luck.
  • I used to work for Winegard and I am a big fan of their products. The Carryout G2 would be my choice. King Dome also sells a similar dome product but I have no information about the product and you rarely see anyone posting anything about their domes for DirecTV (lots of Tailgaters, but that's Dish only).
  • Thanks Bill. Any one any better than the other. I want this to be a one time, works out of the box quest.
  • Your D12 will do a great job with any of the dome style auto pointing antennas. Only a single coax run necessary despite information to the contrary.
  • First, I would suggest upgrading your home system to the latest Genie and minis. Next would then buying a decent oval dish to match the one Direct will install on your house. Simple. It's the only way you can do a single coax from dish to RV.
