It is unfortunate that those who don't know what they are talking about can still pass judgement. The Anser is anything BUT a piece of junk. It is, however, misunderstood (poor little Anser!).
As mentioned above, the Anser is a semi-automatic antenna (Winegard calls it a hybrid automatic) and it does take a tiny bit of user intervention but the savings make this extremely worthwhile.
The antenna will work with DirecTV or Dish and you can connect multiple receivers or a DVR and the model is not important other than the new DirecTV Genie or H25 receivers. These do work but requires additional DirecTV SWM hardware.
In any case, you get where you are going, connect the Anser to your receiver(s) and set the elevation by lining up the arrow on the top half with the numbers on the bottom half. This takes about 2 seconds. It comes with a paper chart showing what elevation setting to used based upon your location or you can download a free app for your smart phone and based upon your current GPS location you will be provided with that information.
Now, plug in the Anser and wait for the receiver single meter to show you are locked onto the satellite and then unplug the Anser and watch TV. It must be unplugged (the misunderstood part) after locating the satellite and it can then be forgotten about. It will remain fixed on that satellite until you are ready to move again.
