antenna for cell booster

Has anyone tried or know if it is possible to use RV entertainment center antenna (roof mounted whip) or tv antenna as outside antenna for wifi/cell booster? My idea would be to put a splitter on antennae cable and connect also to cell booster.

Likely that I would also need to install a metal plate on roof around antenna base to act as ground plate.

Thanks

  • Wilson has what you need - I have a Wilson Sleek and also their 'Home and Office' kit. Works well for a Jetpack or if I use my phone as a hotspot. Generally adds two bars. But you DO have to have some kind of signal to boost.

Wilson also has various other home boosters and antennas. Call them and have a talk.
  • Back in 07' bought a Wilson Trucker antenna along with cell phone & air card adapter cables.

mounted antenna on top of ladder and ran cable in thru back window...connect adapter cable and plug into phone or air card

As long as we would get a 'tower' the antenna would gives up 2-bars

Still have antenna and cables (same cell phones too) :B

A few years back I was using the VERIZON MIFI units sitting in a WILSON CRADLE that had a outside antenna setup. You just sit the MIFI unit or you cell phone in the WILSON cradle and it give great operations using the extended height of the Wilson Cradle antenna. This was back in the 2G-3G days and I never updated for the 4G setups...

Still works like gang busters for me tho however but the MIFI unit I am using is slow throughput speed and does not do well for movies or HDTV internet signals. Only use it for checking in with the kids, paying a few bills, and some surfing the internet. I only have a 3G database account with Verizon so it works fine for me...

That might work for you if you had a better MIFI unit and a much bigger DATA PLAN with an internet carrier. Check out the newer JETPACK for 4G setups...

  • Could you attach it...Yes

    The problem is frequency
T.v. Antenna is for vhf and uhf bands
And cellular is a different set of bands
I say bands because most phones and providers , use a spread of channels in 4 or more frq bands,
And you need and antenna that is tuned to the right bands
You need the right antenna , with the booster
