Antenna

I have a 5 yr old JACK antenna head mounted on a Wineguard mast. Sometimes it doesn't work effectively. What would be a good replacement? A new head or the new rotating Jack? What brant works best?
  • Best? Winegard Sensar IV replacement head.
On the other hand, I would check the antenna connections before discarding the Jack.
  • I like the Jack. I installed it for the sticks and bricks. You may have a loose or corroded connection. If you have not checked it is time to do so. When it is not working well is the red led light on the bottom on?

Does sound like a loose RG cable connection to me. These kind of things usually either work or they don't - not intermittent...

The next time it happens take a quick look outside and make sure the RED LED LIGHT is 'ON' under the JACK Antenna... If it is NOT ON then do a quick inside the the trailer where the ANTENNA PANEL is located and make sure it has it's LED LIGHT ON.

The JACK Antenna is great antenna and alot of folks swear by it. I like the BATWING Antenna myself but that is probably just OLD SCHOOL taking over that you need more wire in the sky to get best reception.

This JACK Antenna would be pointing to the distant HDTV signal to the RIGHT.

If you do end up getting this BATWING Antenna be sure the UHF DIPOLES are included. This antenna would be pointing to the HDTV Transmitting station to the RIGHT. Changing to this antenna would only be a five minute job since you already have the same crank-up and rotate assy installed.

  • I have done it. When I bought my RV it had a Batwing that was not working, I cleaned up all connections and tested to see if it was broken, it was,so I replaced it with a new bat wing then ran a Channel Scan I was not impressed with the amount of channels that I got. This was done in my driveway here in the south bay of So Calif using my SensarPro.

I then went out and got a Wingman add on, that put my channel scan up to 47,but I had a clearance problem with the Wingman

So I opted to put a Jack on and my channel scan went up to 60

I then went with the Rayzar as you can see it fits in the same space.
I opted not to put it on the supplied 13 In. arm. I kept one arm of the Winegard mast and mounted it that way, there are instructions in the kit,it is very easy to do. This way I had it in the same space and got the maximum height when deployed.

The Bi-Directional feature is great and easier to use than the Jack and I get a few more stations.
