These antennas are made and marketed to a gullible public that has either forgotten about the basic principles of television antenna design or were too young to have ever used one. Many of the “high-tech” antennas we see sold these days are designed to work with UHF channels only, an important issue if one or more local stations still occupies VHF channels 2-13.
Indoor antennas are only suitable if you live relatively close to the tv station transmitter
there has been over the air tv channels available since tv was invented this is not a new thing they never quit broadcasting when cable or satellite tv came out. they were required by the fcc to change the signal broadcasted to a digital signal in 2009 but they still use the same frequency spectrum assigned to tv broadcasting as they used to though more are broadcasting in the uhf portion of the band now.
the tv does not care if the antenna is called a digital antenna or not it still receives the same frequencies as before digital tv.
if you live in the same city as the tv station transmitters then a indoor antenna may work for you.
a amplified antenna will not help if there is no signal to amplify in the first place.
