I don't pay for data, my phone service costs only $100 a year. Mobile maps are about the only thing I miss since I am close to wifi almost all the time. I paid for a 32 GB iPhone 5 on eBay and got 64 GB by mistake so I have tons of memory for maps.
After my wife vacuumed my cord last year I bought a cheapo at a bargain store that didn't work. A $10 one from Best Buy worked and so did another from a bargain store at about the same price. I think they had "for iPhone/iPad" on the packages whereas the bad one did not. My plugin with two USB ports no longer charges iPad, I suppose that is the electrical noise problem someone mentioned.
