If you can find similarly equipped Apple and PC for $300 more you should jump on the Apple! Generally the difference is closer to $1000 which is the #1 reason I have not jumped ship (and I like my PC!).

Her response was tactful but direct said "Dad, the difference between a Mac vs a PC is that the Mac operates intuitively like the human brain! The PC is not intuitive! "the PC unlike the Mac is not based on consumer friendly operation:) Or, to say this in another way, "Dad you would find the PC too computer challenging and frustrating":)Or, Apple's tech support and warranty support is outstanding 7/24! Or, The Mac takes 2 actions or steps VS 5 or 6 actions/commands to get the same job done.Or, in 15 years I have never had or experienced a virus using my Mac Book Pro

The price difference is usually somewhat larger for comparable systems but either way, this technology professional chooses PC, and the same goes for phones and tablets, Android over Apple.

I could not disagree more that a Mac is somehow more intuitive. That's just silly. If you can learn to use a Mac you can learn to use a PC and there is going to be a learning curve with both. If you have been using a PC for many years, the learning curve will be steep when you move to an Apple and none at all if you stay with a PC.

Probably the only way you could more differing opinions on your question is if you had asked...
I have to go to the PC store OR the Apple store to buy a new computer but first I have to buy a new truck to get there. Should I buy a new Ford, Ram, or GM and then once you tell me that, please tell me which computer I should buy?
That question would be good for bout 100 pages of answers/opinions..

I don't get the intutive thing either - and I'm a professional computer person.

As for viruses, a Mac can get them just as easily as a PC - it's just that the virus makers target the more popular PC. Not a selling point as you would be foolish to think your Mac is somehow immune and you don't run antivirus software.

Half a dozen of one, six of another. Buy what you are comfortable with. Nothing wrong with Mac OS. But the notion that Mac is "better" than Apple comes from the days of Windows 95. Windows 7 and Windows 8 are as trouble free as any Mac. And there is more software available.

Also the notion that Macs are somehow impervious to malware and other attacks is gross misinformation. They just aren't targeted as much.

Windows is pretty secure. So much so that malware writers no longer look for flaws in that OS, they use 3rd party software like Adobe Reader, Flash player, and JAVA. Guess what? There are versions of these that run on all popular OSes.

So again, buy what you are comfortable with. One is not better than the other.

Oh, BTW, I've been a systems administrator and have worked with many computer OSes for the past 18 years.
