These scare articles tend to popup with each new version of Windows. As such, will have no influence whether I upgrade or not. What will involves compatibility issues with my existing software, not so much the hardware as my systems are fairly new. But I know for a fact that some of my software will not work with WIN 10, with no upgrade path available.
I've got one Windows Starter laptop that will get upgraded immediately to WIN 10. In fact, will receive a more feature rich version with WIN 10, now that there are no more Starter versions.
This is really a no brainer IMO. Download WIN 10 upgrade during its one year Free period. Nothing says you have to install it? And, if doing so, would elect a fresh install anyway. No in place upgrade, so nothing would need to be backed out to the previous version. Which can be problematic.
Make a full system image backup before doing the install. There are several free apps available, and drive storage is dirt cheap. You can always restore back to your previous Windows install. Even years down the road when Forbes so called subscription model comes into effect, which I don't buy into at all for the "free" upgrade version.
Better yet, install WIN 10 as dual-boot or as a BIOS boot order drive, so you can always go back to your previous version in tact and with a few clicks. You will also have a full system image file as a secondary backup to restore.
As such, I'm not seeing the issues with downloading or installing the Free WIN 10 from the these unanswered Microsoft questions indicated in the Forbes article?
