Asus has a great reputation. I've owned several of their motherboards over the decades. They've been good. I also have one of those EeePC netbooks that has been very reliable. But...
I recently recommended one to my brother who reported back that the case was very flimsy and consequently he's been getting errors. He returned it. I just bought one of their cheaper models and it goes into sleep mode if I rest my left wrist on it while typing. Once again a flimsy case. Mine is in for warranty repair right now. That said, I have a year old high end Asus at work that has been flawless. It's been a great computer. I've also read various reports about Asus recently having quality issues. This may be one of those "You get what you pay for" things.
