Many sales people know nothing
Call the car connect number, do not discuss it with any other phone sales people
On Star is a wholly owned subsidiary of GM, virtual carrier using AT&T
And started as a contract service with GMC for their vehicles
I have no idea if any on Star services are available on Ford products
The Mobley and the available plans are AT&T competing offer to GM and other car owners
There are a lot of 'maybe' questions being tossed out and a lot of assumptions being made
Like the F150 question
If the truck radio connects to the phone to provide a hotspot, then it is using the phone, the radio only acts as a router, the radio is not cellular and not connecting to cell towers (according to the way the question was phrased)
So no you can't buy on star service or the unlimited plan
This plan is a special offer for a specific device (the mobley)
Offered by AT&T
To compete with ONSTAR offer made by GM to new car owners
ONSTAR is a virtual carrier like cricket, they buy bulk service from AT&T and provide it to GM customers as an option, when they purchase a new vehicle
The Mobley does not provide all of the ONSTAR services, it only provides an internet data connection, at a competing price and as a stand alone plan
Can it be started and stopped any time
I don't know, but at $20 for unlimited, I will not risk it
I have it, and I will keep it paid up and turned on even if I don't use it everyday or every week
These offers have a habit of disappearing, and then you can't get them back after you terminate by turning it off, or drop it from you account
