After a bit of an ordeal, I am up and running. Here's my story (condensed as much as possible) to hopefully help someone else to avoid repeating my challenges. Bought a new unused ZTE Mobley on eBay. Came with a SIM card in. Called the correct phone number to set it up (I have no existing AT&T account). They confirmed device as new and originally bought at a Best Buy, quickie credit check, can't use existing SIM, new card being overnighted, 1GB plan in place, call to change to unlimited at time of activating new SIM, etc. Easy and all good, right? Wrong! Called 2 days later as SIM hadn't arrived to find out order was cancelled. Repeated the whole process, waited another few days, still no card, called, cancelled again....??? Supervisor brought into discussion to find out what was happening and eventually learned I had to go to local AT&T store with ID to validate who I am with a provided order number from the phone rep. Finally, some good news....local store activated existing SIM, put me on the correct plan, and had me out the door in 5 minutes flat. I bought the pre-made a/c adapter on Amazon and am posting this using my new device! A bit of a runaround to get there, but the results are everything I hoped for. Moral of the story....if you buy your device online, take it to the store for activation.
