I had to go to ATT store to activate/get a phone number assigned. When I called Connected car, they asked for the phone number and said it needed one assigned. Tried to do that online via ATT and couldn't do it. So, went to ATT store.
ATT store didn't know what I was talking about, so initially they added the line to my cell phone plan for $9.99... Connected car took that off. It shows up on my bill as Plan 2 - Unlimited. $20.
Plugged it into my ODB-II and it works. Did NOT need a new SIM card.
I think some of the 'processes' appear to be changing for whatever reason. Connected Car could not do anything for me without the phone number. I guess if I did not have an ATT account, I would have had to create one. It worked out, but I could see how it would be easier to just buy it from ATT, have it already activated, and then call connected car.
It's all good. Easy peesy once I had an assigned phone number.
