We took advantage of this sale today and upgraded our 4S to a 5S. Here's what we found: The $1 offer is for the 16 GB phone and your trade-in must have no scratches, dings, etc.
We were allowed to trade-in our 16GB 4S phone for a 32GB 5S phone and pay $99 difference. We could have gotten the 16 GB for $1.00 but chose to upgrade to the 32GB version.
It was not a steal, but we felt a good value. We were told that Verizon would charge us a $35 activation fee on our next bill . . . which did not make us happy, but it is what it is. The 5S supports 4G LTE (the 4S was only 3G) and we often use the phone for a hotspot when traveling. This made the decision an easy one.
