AT&T's Double the Data Promotion ends Oct. 31

I wanted to sign up for Millenicom to get 20 GB for $89.00 per month. I figured that's a pretty good deal. But when I went to their site, they indicated that they were sold out of the equipment and couldn't sell me a new plan. When I called them, they confirmed that they were out of stock and didn't know when they'd have more in.

Later that evening, I went to Verizon to inquire about a 20 GB Data only plan and they quoted me $120 per month plus taxes. Now I'm getting depressed.

So I decided to call my carrier, AT&T and ask them how much an additional 20GB of data would cost me. To my surprise, they told me that they have a promotion going on now for an additional $35.00 per month, I could get an additional 20GB of data. Hallelujah, that's much cheaper then Millenicom. I then decided to push my luck so I asked for an additional 30 GB of data for a total of 40GB which I currently have. Turns out that's only $50.00 extra.

It's cheaper than Millenicom and I get more data. I signed up right away and wanted to share this with you all:

  • I just changed my MiFi from Verizon to AT&T because I could not get decent signal with Verizon. It wouldn't even work at my house. I just traveled over 3,000 miles using my MiFi and had signal almost everywhere, even in the mountains of Tennessee.
  • I went into an att store to change my data plan fron 10 gigs to 15 - the minimum to be doubled. Then ended up giving me 25 buck a line discount for all 3 iphones, and charged me 10 bucks for the increase to 15 gigs data. I ended up $65 bucks a month less and triple data..
  • Verizon matched ATT double data the day after ATT announced it. Sprint doubled theirs last month, and REDOUBLED it again. I know Sprint service is bad, but if you are in a Sprint Spark network, it is by FAR the best deal going right now.
  • We've had AT&T for years. We see comments about bad coverage often but that has not been our experience. We very rarely lack coverage and we don't drive on interstates or hang around big cities constantly. I post on our blog regularly from wherever we happen to be. Sometimes I'm really surprised to have fast internet out in the boonies. It helps to have up to date equipment.

The double data promotion looks like a great deal - one that I've been considering.
  • Just returned from a 7000 mile "canyon's" tour and always had ATT service. At any rate, think that double data thing is only for the highest data level.
  • The coverage area for AT&T is not as good as Millenicom's which is on the Verizon network.

The AT&T coverage might be good enough for you. It would not be for me.

I took a 5,000 mile trip in 2012... and was very happy with my Millenicom connection.
I took another 5,000 mile trip this summer and again, was very happy with Millenicom's coverage area.

AT&T is fine if you hang around big cities and Interstates. I don't.
