A/V Options

Hi All,
I've been a follower for a while..and have learned heaps from you guys.
We're pretty new to RV's(have a 28' KZ Sportsmen) for the last two years. We've just "upgraded" to 36' Dutchman Classic 5th Wheel...bunk house model. 1998 Vintage...It's perfect for my 5 & 3 yea olds!

Sorry for the monologue....I refurbished the AV in the sportsmen with the Jensen AWM975...and personally think it is a ....well you get the picture.

So I am looking to set up the Dutchman a little better. My family (Wifey, Me and two cretins) are planning a 12 month tour of the US)

What are my options.....the Furrion DV1200 looks cool...does it live up to it's hype?
Anyone tried the sound bar / sub / speakers combo?

I'm not looking for a simple swap.I'm comfortable with pulling wire and cutting new holes as required. I'm looking to get good sound in the main cab and some tunes under the awning;...

all opinions appreciated...thanks
  • Grand Design RV's uses the Furrion, and they are a constant source of aggravation and problems on their forum. DVD players that won't work, terrible sound and premature failures.

Like Jim said, Furion is junk. I plan on placing the one in my Grand Design as soon as I have the time.
  • I think all the RV audio systems are junk. Every component stinks unless you get into some of the higher end 5er and motorhomes that use home theater style systems. I looked into replacing my poor OEM system with a $250 mobile/car stereo DVD player head unit. That would have done everything the OEM system would do, with better quality and easier use. I was planning to use the fader to control inside vs. outside speakers. But then those speakers all suck so that's another $100/pair for anything decent.

Do you need it to run off 12V power or is 110V AC ok? Some kind of 2.1 or 5.1 HTIB that runs off 110V AC is probably the easiest/cheapest path to good sound with good usability. Most do not have AM/FM receivers, though.

I ended up buying a $60 portable bluetooth speaker. We use it almost every day, home or camping. It sounds far better than the RV system. And we take it inside, outside, the beach, campfire, around the yard, etc. Wish I spent more on an even better one. Another $50 portable DVD player that runs off 12V DC or 110v AV. I run video to the TV in the trailer when inside and audio to that speaker which also has 3.5mm input. Now we stream most media from smartphones/tablets.
  • my TV is Vizio ..target
my dvd player is a phillips 7yrs old ..best buy
my media player is Sony..best buy
my PVR is Home Worx bought from Amazon
my in dash stereo is Sony..Frys electronics

    avoid Jensen and furrion
goto your favorite store and buy, your favorite brand
  • Thanks for all the replies...

We are planning on doing a lot of boondocking...we have a generator but would like to be able to run on 12vdc.

It sounds like I should buy 110v components...then I should go with an inverter specifically for the AV stuff? Is that doable? I;m ok/have the room to install serious batteries and maybe toss in a solar panel?
  • We have a Furrion DV5100 in our Grand Design and between our PDI and our first weekend camping the display fried, it didn't even make it long enough for our first trip.

Check out the iRV 66.. I have this in my 2016 Rockwood Windjammer and it works great.

    ======================

I have the same unit on our 2016 Windjammer 3029W and it has terrible reception. Antenna extended or not the FM stations are weak and only about 5 come in. On AM there's nothing but noise. Pulled the unit out and all connections are firm.
Tried a CD and it worked fine.
    I'm at a loss here????
