- RedskyExplorerAnyone with any IT savvy has known that you wait for the first service pack from Microsoft to be out for a month before thinking of going to new version of Windows. As with Microsoft's infamous SP2 that blew up computers one needs to wait and let others be the guinea pigs.
After 3 years Windows 7 is far from stable and I can crash a computer by inserting a dongle into a USB port. Unfortunately one either deals with the operating system limitations with Wintel computers or the hardware and communications limitations of Apple computers. I have always and will always refer to it as "eXtra Painful" for it is.. And 8.1.. Well 8.1 is an UP grade.. what is an UP grade to eXtra Painful.. Why Ultra Painful of course. UP). it's not that we now "Love" xp, its that we hate 7 and 8 more. - KA4EBUExplorerTom N, a lot of the dos just need to be compiled to an .exe program. I have done some for people over the years. I use VisualBasic 6, a old version that does good.
- rk911ExplorerI remember using Workgroups for Windows v 3.11. that's my earliest recollection of windows. then 95, 98, XP and now 7. 95 to 98 was the only time I upgraded the OS on the same machine. 3.11 to 95, 98 to XP and XP to 7 all involved new PCs.

they had a couple of versions before 3.1 but nobody used them that I know of
Windows 3.1,95,98,ME,2000,XP,Vista,7,8 (does anyone actually know how to use windows8)
I never has a problem with XP but I stayed with 2000 for at least a year after is came out, I also haven't had any issues with vista, I've been running it on this laptop since December 2007 - rk911Explorer

old timer brain fart. yes, you are correct. Vista is why I STAYED with XP until Win7 and even then I didn't upgrade to 7 until it had been out for quite a while. WinME is why I stayed with Win98. when XP was introduced and our office made the switch I loved it and bought a new WinXP desktop for the house.
the point is I found WinXP to be very, very stable. i'm finding Win7 to be the same. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer II
