Best Quiet Generator for Travel Trailer

We are the proud new owners of a new hybrid travel trailer. We would occasionally like to dry camp; however, we live in South Carolina, where air conditioning is a necessity during the summer months.

We were thinking of purchasing a generator. What, in your opinion, is the best QUIET generator that would serve our needs to run the a/c in our unit and not make enemies of our camping neighbors?

  • Also be aware that some places only allow generators a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the evening. First thing I would make sure you have is a fantastic fan.

With that said, do you have a budget in mind? You can spend $1000 on a Honda or $500 on a Champion. Both inverter generators rated at the same. If you will be doing it a lot, save up the money and get the honda. If you will do it a few times a year or less, save the money and go with the champion.
  • Be aware. IF you plan on dry camping in a primitive camp ground. You will not be allowed to run the generator at night. Also be aware. In a primitive camp ground. there is no such thing as a quiet generator. No matter what kind it is.
  • Boily 3600 or Champion 3500 inverter. I have the Champion and friends have Boily. Both can run recent model 15k btu a/c.

Yup... kinda expensive but quiet and effective.
  • Twin 2000 watt Honda's or Yamaha's will do it but if the weight of a Honda 3000 is not too much for you, it is the quietest.

  • Most generators will show the noise rating at idle and at max throttle. You can use this information to find a quiet one at the best price.

I bought the Honda 2000i (two of them) because I found them to be quieter than others I looked at. If I was buying today I would look at a 3000 watt Yamaha or Honda for reliability.
