It's still many years away before 4K HD will be available at reasonable prices to the consumer market. Even most movie theaters are equipped with 2K digital projectors, although new installations tend to go with 4k. Theaters must also be equipped with a media block(server) that is capable of delivering 4 times the data for 4K digital cinema. That's why theaters equipped with 4K projector systems still show most movies in 2K as 4K content is not available.
The same issues also effect consumer 4K HD LCDs. Where are you going to get the 4K encoded programs to take advantage of the increased resolution? Not likely from OTA broadcasters anytime this decade. Maybe first from cable or satellite, but expect to pay a premium as they need to deliver 4 times the data. And also expect to pay a premium for consumer 4K desktop deliver devices. Otherwise, you're just up-scaling full HD to 4K which is not much different than doing the same with a standard DVD to HD?
