The public accepted HDTV because there was a very noticeable improvement in picture quality going from 480i to 1080p and the change in OTA broadcasting to digital meant many people would needed to buy something to make it possible to continue to watch TV so buying new TV's sort of seemed necessary.
IMHO going to 4k HD is a question of diminishing returns. How much better will TV picture seem if it is twice as clear as it is today? Most people agree that anything more than 720p is pretty much wasted for screen sizes less than ~32". Will appreciating 4k HD require screen sizes twice that? If that's the case it surely won't be in my MH nor will TV's that size be in all that many people's houses.
I'm sure there will be some movie buffs who will race to buy 4k TVs but it won't be me and I'm normally an early adopter of new technology. Of course, that's JMO.
